Stribling Insiders: Gregory Spock
Gregory’s motto is to let listings take the center stage, while agents take on all the work behind the scenes. And no wonder — he is a classically trained opera singer who has performed at home as well as abroad and brings the same passion he has from the stage to his real estate career. We sat down with Greg to talk about how a less-than-stellar real estate experience led him to his current career:
When did you first get into residential real estate and why?
In March 2011, I had a poor rental experience and felt I could provide people with a better housing search experience.
What is your favorite part about being a real estate agent?
Meeting new people and exploring new neighborhoods.
Why did you choose Stribling & Associates?
Stribling is one of only two remaining family-run residential real estate firms in New York City. I like knowing who the people at the top are and the family culture that exists within Stribling.
Do you have a favorite neighborhood?
I do not have a favorite neighborhood as I feel NYC is constantly evolving, and there are new discoveries to be made in each neighborhood.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Sing opera, watch opera, attend contemporary art shows, cook, walk my dog Mario, travel, listen to music, and of course spend time with my wife and son.
What is an achievement of which you are most proud?
Becoming a father this year
Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
The Talented Mr. Ripley
Favorite travel destination?
It’s a toss-up between the tasting menu at Catbird Seat in Nashville, TN, the From Land to Sea experience at Belcanto in Lisbon, Portugal or the Omakase at Sushi Nakazawa in the West Village, NYC.
If you weren’t a real estate agent, what would you be?
Heldentenor (a powerful tenor voice suitable for heroic roles in opera.)
What else should we know about you?
I am a classically trained opera singer. I have sung in many regional opera houses and internationally with the Maggio Formazione in Florence, Italy.
