Stribling Insiders: Laurie Stolowitz
Whether she’s whipping up a stunning culinary creation for Thanksgiving, or touring homes with clients across NYC, Laurie is a true “people person”. After a successful career in catering and events, Laurie made the leap to real estate five years ago, and hasn’t looked back. We sat down with her to chat about her favorite NYC neighborhood, and how she designed her private log cabin oasis in the woods of the Hudson Valley.
When did you first get into residential real estate and why?
I got into real estate five years ago. My background was in catering and events, but I have always been a closet real estate junkie. Being able to see apartments all the time is a dream come true. I was looking to continue working with clients, but I was ready to leave the lifestyle of the event world.
What is your favorite part about being a real estate agent?
Connecting with people and helping them to find their next home. Home is very important to me; I’m all about my “nest”. I love educating people and helping them to understand and work through the process. Every closing is so exciting.
Why did you choose Stribling & Associates?
I knew the stellar reputation of Stribling and I loved the personal environment. Also, my cousin Iris has been a Stribling broker for many years and it has given us the opportunity to partner on projects.
Do you have a favorite neighborhood and why?
Nostalgically speaking, the Village is my neighborhood. I know all of the quirky streets and I feel totally at home there. But, with each new listing I feel I get the opportunity to learn a new neighborhood.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I revert to my catering days and love to cook. I also have an amazing garden; I’m overdue for pruning and dead-heading as I write this. I also love going to the movies.
What is an achievement of which you are most proud?
No hesitation: our son, Sam. I smile just thinking about him.
Crossing to Safety by Wallace Stegner
Dr. Zhivago, though I just saw the original Lawrence of Arabia, which was stunning.
Favorite travel destination?
France, Tulum, the Cape, and I want to go on safari one of these days.
Thanksgiving at our house!
If you weren’t a real estate agent, what would you be?
I’ve been many things! I love the variety in my career and interests. Whatever it might be would need to combine organization, working with people and an opportunity for creativity.
What else should we know about you?
My husband, Alan and I live in a log cabin in the woods of Chappaqua in Westchester County. We are a good team and designed a renovation to our house, which I GC’d [served as general contractor]. We have three sons and five grandsons; so far, we seem to only know how to produce boys!
