Stribling Insiders: Nancy Piraquive

Nancy draws upon her interior design background for a unique edge in the real estate business. She joined Stribling in December of 2017 after working as a residential interior designer and, prior to that, as an international private banker. Though relatively new to the business, in just six months Nancy successfully completed the virtual staging of an important prewar condominium on Park Avenue, the rental of two properties in the Flatiron District, and the sale of her own cooperative apartment in one of Park Avenue’s most prestigious prewar buildings. We caught up with Nancy to chat about why she chose to kick off her real estate career at Stribling and why staging has become such an integral part of her business.

Nancy Piraquive

When did you first get into residential real estate and why?

During my long career as an interior designer, I frequently advised real estate brokers on the condition, staging and pricing of their properties. As the years went by, I realized that my professional background, my sensitivity and passion for gracious living gave me distinctive insights into positioning properties for sale that many brokers had struggled with.

What is your favorite part about being a real estate agent?

I love meeting clients and matching them with their ideal home. Interestingly, I find that many people purchase properties from those of similar personalities and tastes. I also enjoy staging homes and seeing the clients’ reaction — a new space allows them to experience a different lifestyle through a new aesthetic. Nothing gives me more satisfaction.

Why did you choose Stribling & Associates?

Stribling & Associates is known for the highest ethical standards in the industry. Stribling is the only firm at which I envisioned myself. Without any previous real estate sales experience, I interviewed — and in reality Stribling chose me. Like many New York City women, I deeply admire Elizabeth Stribling for establishing herself as the grande dame of real estate on the Upper East Side. She has given many women and men the opportunity for true growth in a lovely community with a great sense of camaraderie. Stribling & Associates is everything that I envisioned. They are the most brilliant, poised and ethical professionals in real estate. Elizabeth’s daughter, Elizabeth Ann, is successfully following in her mother’s footsteps and is guiding the company into the digital age, while we continue to be one of the most competitive real estate companies in the profession.

Do you have a favorite neighborhood and why?

I like to work in the Upper East Side because I know the schools, the businesses and the people very well. But I also enjoy learning about other neighborhoods. I find that every neighborhood in New York City has its own unique beauty and character.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

In my spare time I like to stay abreast with all news related to real estate and interior design. I love to visit and photograph show houses and gardens, flea markets and antique shops.

What is an achievement that you are most proud?

I am lucky to have had many proud moments.

I am very proud of raising my daughter to not only to be a very accomplished professional but also a very humane one.

My latest achievement is having shown and sold my own cooperative apartment in a five month period without conducting any open houses. I managed to achieve the highest sale price despite strong competition from other offerings within the building.

If you weren’t a real estate agent what would you be doing?

I would be restoring and living in an historic home with a beautiful garden and lots of Westies running around chasing squirrels.
