For nearly eight years, Sarah has been an extremely valuable part of the Stribling family. As Director of Referrals, Sarah is in charge of sourcing the best real estate agents for Stribling clients in other parts of the country — and the world. Similarly, she handles all incoming referral relationships from our partner brokerages around the globe. When she’s not working from one of our offices in Manhattan or Brooklyn, she can be found traveling to one of many networking conferences held throughout the year, ensuring that Stribling is top-of-mind when it comes to New York City brokerages. We caught up with Sarah to chat about why she chose Stribling, her favorite place to kick back and relax, and what she has in common with the author of her favorite book:

Sarah Alvarez

When did you first get into residential real estate and why?

My mother, Melissa Cohn, founded The Manhattan Mortgage company the year before having me and I was fortunate to grow up completely immersed in the world of New York City real estate. I have always joked that I was the second child in my family, although first born.

What is your favorite part about your job?

I love being able to share information and anecdotes on the New York City market when representing Stribling at conferences. I keep a pulse on the market by attending our office meetings regularly. Everyone is always interested to hear what is going on and it is very fascinating to learn more about other markets as well.

Why did you choose Stribling & Associates?

I was immediately impressed with how warm, welcoming and inclusive the Stribling community is. In stark contrast to some of the other firms that had a very rigid and corporate personality, I chose Stribling because I wanted to be part of this amazing family where you feel valued and appreciated. I was raised to believe that women can do anything, and it is such a privilege to be part of a company that demonstrates this on a daily basis. The loyalty and dedication that Libba and EA inspire fires the engines of our success.

It is hard to believe that I have been with Stribling & Associates for nearly 8 years!

Do you have a favorite neighborhood and why?

As a long-time Murray Hill resident, I am a huge cheerleader for the neighborhood. I love that almost every business has a Grand Central location — it makes everyday life extremely convenient. Although it can be hectic during business hours, in the evenings all the residents get to enjoy the amazing restaurants, bars and rooftops when the crowds are gone.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I love going to concerts, comedy shows, sporting events and pretty much anything else the city has to offer. I try to always accept all invitations and never turn down an opportunity to try something new — otherwise what is the point of living here?!

Favorite book?

In The Time of The Butterflies— Julia Alvarez (No relation, but shared last name did lead to an early fascination!)

Favorite movie?

Wedding Crashers

Favorite travel destination?

The Carribean. It is such an easy flight from NYC and especially after the devastating storms of 2017, it is very important that we band together and support these communities with tourism as they work to recover.

Favorite meal?

Lobster Rigatoni at Beacon in Sag Harbor

If you weren’t in real estate, what career would you choose?

I dreamed of being a professional Equestrian when I was younger, and while that didn’t pan out for me, the allure of the horse world will always hold a special place in my heart.
