Stribling Insiders: Shari Weiner
A natural politico, Shari has channeled her Garden State public service experience across the Hudson into helping real estate clients in New York City. Her resume is extensive: she’s the former Mayor of Livingtson, NJ and was just appointed to Community Board 8 on the Upper East Side. We caught up with Shari to discuss what she loves about real estate, and how she’s helping to get more women involved in politics.
When did you first get into residential real estate and why?
I got started in residential real estate about four years ago. I became aware many friends and acquaintances were selling their suburban New Jersey homes and buying new residences in NYC. I loved sharing the benefits of the urban experience with them.
What is your favorite part about being a real estate agent?
I enjoy meeting such a variety of individual buyers and sellers and getting to see the different types of housing stock available in the city.
Why did you choose Stribling & Associates?
I chose Stribling because I was looking for a real estate firm with a stellar reputation in the NYC luxury real estate market. While at my prior firm, I always found Stribling brokers to be of the highest caliber and professionalism.
Do you have a favorite neighborhood and why?
My favorite neighborhood is the Upper East Side where I live. It is everything “NYC” to me with its beautiful prewar buildings and townhouses, changing landscape, and cosmopolitan air.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
In my spare time, I take advantage of my neighborhood visiting museums, riding my bicycle and walking in Central Park and the rest of Manhattan. I also enjoy going to cultural events and talks that are so numerous in the city.
What is an achievement of which you are most proud?
The professional achievement of which I am most proud was being elected a Town Council Member and then Mayor of my home town Livingston, NJ. I am also very proud that Manhattan Borough President Brewer has just appointed me to Community Board 8. I am glad I will be able to serve my new home NYC!
I like reading Scarpetta mysteries and biographies of political women.
Favorite travel destination?
I enjoy going to the Caribbean, especially St. John, to relax — but the recent hurricanes have destroyed my little place in paradise.
I like a romantic dinners at a French Bistro — there are many good ones in my neighborhood!
If you weren’t a real estate agent, what would you be?
I would be a full time attorney in New Jersey specializing in municipal and land use law.
What else should we know about you?
I have a passion for getting more women into elective and appointed office. To that end, I am involved with many organizations with that goal as their mission. Women do make a difference when they “are at the table” and I feel strongly that it is the responsibility of other women to get them there!
