Isolating “business” in “family business” is no easy feat. There are many days when the process of digitization gets mentally and emotionally draining. Convincing a sole proprietor to accept digital payments alone took months and that was the only moment in which I realized that he never had digital banking (digital banking is a pre-requisite for e-payments). Apart from his time as a clerk in national service more than three decades ago, he has never touched a computer. For someone who interacts with the computer on a daily basis, trying to empathize is a real challenge.

When people talk about digital transformation for family businesses/ small and medium enterprises, I think it is easy to glorify the ease of transition through the fixation on efficiency gains and presume some level of baseline technical competency. But for adult learners who never owned a computer or had the habit…
