Driving uphill was a true adventure for my little city car, I feared engine overheat as the road felt steeper than I could remember from trips to the place with other cars.

Luckily for us, it behaved well and took us to the top of Açor Mountain, 1242 m high! And we did not have to deal with being stuck somewhere on the way up after all!

My advice, basically, would be that you make sure your car is fit for a couple of climbs of 10% grade.

Colcurinho, Portugal

This area is part of Aldeia das Dez parish in the Oliveira do Hospital Municipality, in the center of Portugal.

Colcurinho is the name of the little mount itself. And, when you see the little white chapel of Our Lady of the Needs, you will know that´s the sunset view spot. We were there right on time, right before sunset!

Being granted with quite a spectacular panoramic view over Estrela Mountain made the vertigo-inducing driving more than worthwhile.

Next time we may be cycling up hill, why not?

Cycle up hill to Colcurinho

“The view induces the opposite of vertigo, a lurching feeling inspired not by gravity’s pull to earth, but by the infinite reaches of heaven.”
