Advance your career by avoiding these ten mistakes
Learning what not to do can save you time and trouble.
You might remember your parents/guardians telling you as a child, “Don’t do this,” probably more than the positive counterpart, “Remember to do this.”
Why do many rules and advice have a “do not” or “no” in them?
In some cases, learning to avoid something is more valuable than learning to do something.
“Don’t run into the street.”
“No stealing.”
And many others statements like these.
As we mature, we realize that experiencing the prohibited has unwanted consequences. We may not see them right away but they will likely catch up to us.
The same goes for career growth. From my observations, the persons who avoid making these makes have had successful careers.
Mistake 1: Not having a plan
Without a career plan, we cannot grow in the desired direction. To grow, we need to improve our skills and add experience. But what skills? And what experience? Without having a plan (or even an idea) of what we want to achieve, how can we start taking the steps to get to the desired outcome?
