In our previous article (3 Reasons Why You Must Use Facebook Advertising to Grow Your Small Business), we discussed why all small businesses need to be utilizing Facebook advertising as a part of their social marketing strategy. One common objection we receive from potential clients is that social media marketing is oversaturated with content and therefore, they believe it’s impossible to stand out from the crowd. If your content and creative is poor then yes, your spend will not be as effective. But if you have powerful creative and copy, there couldn’t be anything further from the truth.

In this post, I’d like to share a few creative design tips we employ for our clients’ Facebook advertising campaigns here at TF West. Next time you create an ad campaign, remember and apply these three tips for maximum results:

1. Use Video (but don’t rely on sound)

The major trend leading into 2017 was to use videos in place of static images, a tactic which for many has yielded great results. A study done by Social Bakers states that the average video post generates 135% greater organic reach when compared to posts with photos. We’ve seen the benefit of using video, and with current smartphone technology and a bit of concentrated editing, you too can create visually enticing videos to promote your business.

Data and personal experience has suggested that you don’t need to get caught up in the sound — at least for now. According to Digiday, nearly 9-in-10 Facebook videos are consumed without sound. Our suggestion would be to add captions within the videos, as Facebook has found that captions increase the watch time by an average of 12%.

2. Match Copy Keywords to Target Audience

When it comes to creating copy for your ad, considering your target audience demographics and psychographics is key. Let’s say you’re targeting local small business owners, age 40–60 for social media marketing services. The copy of your ad should have keywords such as ‘Small Business’ and ‘Social Media’ so that your potential customers may be emotionally or intellectually stimulated to learn more. You want to be concise with your ad copy, especially on Facebook as the newsfeed lends itself to users hastily scrolling through.

I made a quick Facebook ad to show as an example:

TAKE ACTION

As a small business owner, I understand that any dollar put towards marketing and advertising cannot be wasted. Right now, Facebook advertising gives you by far the best bang for your buck through its incredible targeting capabilities and affordable price. For your next social media campaign, be sure to apply the above tips to your overall ad design — you’ll be happy you did.
