I had the pleasure of interviewing Priscilla A. Broward, Founder & Managing Director of Ultimate Beauty Health, which provides high-quality nutricosmetics for general health and beauty for professional and consumer markets.

A seasoned executive with a career focused on startup projects, brand innovation, and trend development, Ms. Broward got her start with consumer-packaged goods (CPG) giant General Foods Corp. From there, she went on to The J.M. Smucker Company, where she developed a new strategic business area within the specialty and natural foods market. This included national retail distribution and an expansive broker network.

Ms. Broward’s roles in managing national sales initiatives sparked an entrepreneurial spirit that led her to co-found The Continental Group, providing sales, marketing, and operations management to a full roster of natural and specialty food grocery clients. Eventually selling her TCG stake, she partnered with Unicept Corporation, the holding company for several specialty coffee retail brands. Ms. Broward continued to provide strategic sales, branding, and product development services for clients in food service, retail grocery, natural/specialty foods, and beauty/health/wellness spaces.

In 2019, driven by her passion for beauty, health, and wellness, she began the groundwork for Ultimate Beauty Health. Her goal was to offer a nutritional approach to overall beauty and health, starting with nitric oxide-based nutraceutical supplements. Leveraging her deep understanding of competitive global business operations, she prioritized quality, relationships, high standards of integrity, respect, and ethical practices. She thrives on transforming ideas into reality, collaborating with dynamic team players, and bringing new products to life that deliver results.

Thank you so much for joining us!

My pleasure, thank you for connecting with me and for all your organization does to support the entrepreneurial spirit. There are so many talented and intelligent people from all walks of life with great ideas and ambition to solve problems. We are faced with a multitude of challenges, no doubt, but if not for the personal drive of others — no matter how big or small the idea may be — it is, in my opinion, what we are meant to do: create!

What motivated you to launch your startup?

The motivation for creating Ultimate Beauty Health began with a personal preference for clean, multi-purpose products that could offer more than just one benefit, in addition to my passion for good nutrition. Then, once I became more educated about the science of the nitric oxide molecule, a convergence of these three factors initiated the idea. So, I began my research the old-fashioned way — there was no AI — I spent a year educating myself on nitric oxide, ingredients, and gaps in the market, searching for products but not finding all of the qualities that I personally wanted. That’s when I decided to do something about it. Why not? Why couldn’t I create a niche within a competitive environment and offer something really good, while also reflecting the company’s mission: REJUVENATION — the process of helping someone feel or look better, younger, and more vital.

How did your career influence you when creating Ultimate Beauty Health?

It’s easy to look back and see how every piece of my past has influenced my decision to launch Ultimate Beauty Health. My father, a doctor, taught me about the science of biology and how to use that knowledge one day to impact lives. My mentors at General Foods and J.M. Smucker taught me how to couple solid business strategy with building and leveraging good relationships.

I’ve always placed a very high value on relationships, both in life and business. In the consumer goods business, it all comes down to people. Consumers are real people looking for solutions in the goods they buy. As a consumer myself, I always have my consumer hat on. So, when I saw a need to supply a nutritional supplement that directly ties beauty to wellness, I knew I had what it took to bring this idea to market and make a difference in people’s lives.

What is it that excites you about what you’re building?

I love creating and figuring out solutions. I am also passionate about the formulations we offer and how we can do our part to help others with their personal wellness journey. We are a niche catering to an audience looking for clean ingredients that together offer multiple benefits. For example, nitric oxide activation supports healthy blood flow, nutrient uptake, energy, cognitive health, and due to our ingredients, we also support healthy skin, hair, and nails — all in one product! Lastly, it’s exciting to be a part of the longevity and healthy aging movement. I’ve met so many great people who are on the cutting edge with their own respective innovations.

What has been your biggest challenge when growing your startup?

Education, exposure, and promotion. As a new company that began during global shutdowns, we faced significant challenges due to our limited exposure, marketing, funding, and distribution opportunities. Education plays a critical role in understanding that we are not just a typical “dietary supplement” — we really are everything we are NOT: synthetic, chemical, or toxic. Thankfully, I took a measured approach, started developing relationships, and listened to what potential customers were saying. So, we are still here, better than when we began. Good things can take time, but we truly expect 2025 to be the breakout year due to the foundation we’ve built, our new strategic collaborations, and how that will expand our brands and future services.

What are your future plans for your startup?

My vision for Ultimate Beauty Health involves expansion through innovative product development based on Nitric Oxide (N-O) mechanisms. This includes one product for stem cell regeneration and a new powdered N-O boosting drink with collagen. We aspire to participate in select trade events and hope to break out internationally in the fall of 2025. Due to our collaborations, we want to add select services including but not limited to nutrient deficiency testing, customization, red-light beauty masks, and DIY kits for wellness care at home. Furthermore, we recognize the importance of funding needs to enhance and support these initiatives to ensure broader reach and impact.

If you had to share “words of wisdom” with a Founder who’s about to start their own startup, what would they be?

Be authentic. Add as much value as you can. Solve issues. Don’t give up. Prepare your life — meaning, have savings or a steady income to cover your personal overhead. Depending on your situation, many great ideas start out as a side hustle. It’s a lot of work, but I personally did it this way and discovered how much I enjoyed learning, researching, and creating. It is my personal belief that a good product or service will receive the attention and funding it needs to grow at the right time and remain sustainable. Take a long-run approach; this way, you won’t be disappointed if you’re not an overnight success right away. Besides, many of us want to minimize risk, learn from our mistakes, and be able to adapt quickly to new possibilities for our respective businesses.
