Steph Peng, Founder and CEO of Redbloom: Unlocking Longevity with the World’s First SHITLESS Hot Sauce
I had the pleasure of interviewing Steph Peng, Founder and CEO of Redbloom, the world’s first SHITLESS hot sauce — the key to unlocking longevity. Steph and his team are experts in molecular gastronomy and engineered a chili crisp that doesn’t cause stomach pain.
Before we dive in, what is SHITLESS and what problem are you solving?
We have developed a product to solve a common problem experienced by many individuals worldwide. The issue at hand is gastrointestinal inflammation, commonly known as “The Shits,” which is often caused by consuming spicy foods. Our team of molecular gastronomy experts has engineered the first chili sauce to reduce the shits by 85%, allowing individuals to enjoy spicy foods without experiencing any adverse gastrointestinal symptoms. In fact, eating spicy weekly has been shown to increase longevity by 14%.Spice is nature’s best medicine.
Wow, that sounds amazing, but How does it taste?
Prior to our launch, we conducted over 100 blind taste tests, comparing our product to leading hot sauce and chili crisp brands, including Sriracha and Lao Gan Ma. Our product emerged victorious in every single trial, with none of the participants experiencing gastrointestinal inflammation after consumption.
What motivated you to launch your startup?
It started with just me wanting to cook for my roommate. I come from a family of spicy aficionados, sharing my culture through cooking. My roommate has a very weak stomach — he’ll be sitting on the toilet for 6 hours the next day with his laptop after a dinner filled with spicy food. I recognized the significant chemistry and culinary problem at hand and knew we were on to something when I found that most people worldwide experienced this issue.
What is it that excites you about what you’re building?
I’m excited to solve a real problem that has a direct impact on individuals’ longevity. Our product has received positive feedback, and it’s been gratifying to see people’s faces light up after tasting Redbloom.
What has been your biggest challenge when growing your startup?
Our biggest challenge has been finding the right co-manufacturer to scale our manufacturing capabilities. Redbloom’s unique manufacturing processes require advanced techniques that most co-manufacturers do not support. As such, we have had to personally visit co-manufacturers and leverage our networks to find the right partners.
What are your future plans for your startup?
In the future, we plan to launch clinical trials to explore how Redbloom can benefit individuals with IBS, potentially revolutionizing the healthcare and biohacking industry. We have the doctors and scientists on our R&D team to make this a reality.
If you had to share, “words of wisdom,” with a Founder who’s about to start their own startup, what would they be?
If I had to provide “words of wisdom” for a founder starting their own startup, I would suggest surrounding yourself with other startup founders. Immerse yourself in the community and environment, as the network and advice you receive from simple conversations can be priceless.
