Sports memorabilia continues to resonate with the world of sports thriving off concepts such as dedication, loyalty and passion.

A baseball signed by a team’s legendary slugger, the boots that buried the winning goal in the dying moments of a cup final, a replica no. 10 jersey as worn by a magical playmaker: nostalgia motivates collectors.

Deliberate collectibles have also found a home amongst sports fans, too, like collectible player cards, or anniversary merchandise.

This emotional resonance between teams and athletes now expands beyond the physical and into the digital realm.

By leveraging blockchain, we create true digital collectibility. Like physical collectibles before, the new wave of digital collectibles can also be fully owned by players, and openly traded and sold. But digital collectibles can also have experiences built to utilise them, like games. Each experience not only adds utility to the collectibles, but can also increase their potential value.

Introducing Blockchain and Non-Fungible Tokens

Blockchain is a different type of database, an immutable ledger which can be used to prove ownership of the digital content, while also proving the authenticity of such content.

This immutability exists through the way that new data is added in blockchains. Data is added to a blockchain in the form of blocks, with new information being added as new blocks. This means that previous information is retained, rather than overwritten. Hence the name: blockchain.

Thanks to this technology, blockchains allow for Non-Fungible Tokens [NFT] to exist: assets that are created and recorded on the blockchain. Due to the immutable nature of the blockchain these NFTs can be proven to be unique assets without duplicate.

The unchangeable history and trust that blockchain enables also allows for true ownership to exist. Unalterable records help in verifying that the owner of the content is indisputable, giving players assurance that their content is truly theirs. And with this ownership comes the empowering benefit of being able to sell and trade this content.

Licensed Collectibles: FC Bayern Munich with stryking.io

FC Bayern Munich is one of the most successful football clubs in the world, with a grand history that includes record breaking trophy hauls across multiple domestic competitions and German club records across European competitions, including 5 Champions League victories — the premier European club competition. Their legacy also includes some of the game’s greatest players having worn their colours. A beloved team, with millions of fans and followers around the globe, which can be seen by their 652 million following across social media.

By utilising blockchain, officially licensed FC Bayern digital collectables will be releasing on the stryking.io platform.

The blockchain is used to always ensure the authenticity of the digital collectibles, regardless of the age of the collectible, or ownership history.

This is the first release of the stryking.io collectables platform, with FC Bayern being the perfect partner to lead from the front.

Collections, Player Cards and Pre-Sale

The first sale will present this content in the form of collectible Player Cards, with the scarcity of the cards being classified based on two metrics: their overall Rarity level [5 Rarity Tiers in total, with Legendary being the highest), and the Print Number.

The Player Cards first to go on auction will all be of the Legendary Rarity level, and Print Number 1. These will not only be the first FC Bayern Munich Player Cards, but also the first run of any and all Legendary type Player Cards that will exist.

Rarity Tiers tie into the larger Collectibles system provided by the stryking.io platform. The stryking.io platform will reward and incentivise Collections, and reward points based on the player’s Collection. Earlier Print Numbers will present more potential points than later prints. For example, there could be scenarios where a Print Number 20 Legendary is worth less than a Print Number 1 of an Epic Player Card.

More details on the full collection system will be released after the initial pre-sale, as well as information on how stryking.io is developing to become the de facto digital sports platform for blockchain.
