We all love football, we all love the World Cup, but heck — what a baffling World Cup 2018 do we see right now. Italy didn’t even make it to Russia! Portugal, Spain, Argentina, Brazil, even Germany, all the big ones are all struggling or at least don’t dominate the tournament. It’s probably fair to say that it has never been this tough to predict. Most of us do it for fun at our companies at the moment. But worry no more — STRKYZ is here to help. Today we are giving you some strategic tools — and you can use this knowledge directly at football-stars.com powered by STRKYZ to earn awesome prizes like your national jersey or even an iPad with our World Cup challenges.

Use Football-Stars statistics and data like a pro

1.) It’s all about goal efficiency

Gather data from all national clubs around the world about their goal efficiency. Which means: How many attempts do they need until they score. The more data you have, the better. Sports journalists, for example, look at multiple years of data. If you want to find out Germany’s goal efficiency, you need to gather data from at least 2014 on per game. That way you can measure goal efficiency. In this case, the team that won the World Cup in South-Africa is now a squad with a lot of newcomers. For example, they are missing Klose, who had the highest goal efficiency on the German team during the World Cup 2014. In fact, according to goal.com he was the best finisher in Europe with a better shot-to-goal ratio than even Messi and Ronaldo. This shows you one of the reasons why Germany isn’t as dominant anymore, even though they just won against Sweden.

2.) Especially superstars perform differently in their national teams

It’s just important that you only take data from national teams especially because some stars heavily underperform when playing for their national team: Messi is considered among the three best players in the world, but he underperformed very often in the past while playing in the Argentinian jersey. That’s important to take notice of — just because Brazil has Neymar, doesn’t mean they win based on historical data.

You can find a ton of statistics by logging into your football-stars.com account. The three best players right now are Ronaldo from Portugal, Isco from Spain, and Ateef from Saudi Arabia. Another big surprise Coutinho from Brazil — who is actually ahead of their superstar Neymar. Why? Coutinho has an excellent passes ratio of 90.2 percent in comparison to Neymar’s 73.9 percent. Until recently, Coutinho also had more shots on goal and won more duels, but Neymar has caught up. In general, our precise statistics help you to understand the weaknesses and strength of every individual team.

3.) Don’t underestimate the underdogs

Of course, Spain is one of the strongest teams with multiple players in the top rankings. The best one in the Spanish team right now: Isco with a passes ratio of 85.7 percent. He is even among the best in the overall statistics, but Spain has one giant problem right now: They are losing a lot of duels. Diego Costa, for example, has lost 38 duels, and only won 10. That’s not a good ratio and shows you pretty much why they are not as good as we’d consider them to be. They barely managed to win against Iran which was surprising even though Spain had 78 percent ball control. Iran in general is one of the huge surprises of this World Cup: They’ve managed to get in front of the Spanish goal more than once and had a good shot in achieving a tie.

4. At football-stars.com we search for patterns and combine them to an overall score

Please feel free to have a look yourself and give us feedback: We are combining important data from all setups: That’s passes (passes and crosses ratio), shots (how many on target, how many off target), duels, touches, goals but we also add in a bonus, when a player is assisting goals and we are operating with a card malus: When someone receives a yellow card often, that’s something to take into consideration. Germany’s Toni Kroos was at one point in 4th place — not only because of his brilliant free kick against Sweden, but his excellent passes rating of 89.4 percent. His crosses rating is even at 87.5.

5. Predict, win Stars, get jerseys or even an iPad
