Medium Day: The Highs and Lows of Remote Work Abroad [free talk!]
Remote working abroad seems like the perfect way to combine work and travel. But is it?
Working remotely abroad is so often portrayed as a dream come true. Just imagine: tropical island, salty sea breeze, laptop on a sandy bench by dolphins and coconuts, your worries a long plane ride away.
I honestly feel like this is the picture Instagram tries to paint. Can it be as glamorous as that?
Not really. That’s coming from someone who’s done it in the Galapagos, in China, in Colombia and all over Europe (to name a few).
It doesn’t mean that it’s not a wonderful, enriching way to combine work and travel. It just means that it’s time we stopped glossing over the real negatives like they don’t exist. Because if you know them in advance, you can prepare and mitigate. They’re essential really, for trip prep, for sanity, for deciding how long to go for.
Which is why (drumroll… even though you already know from the title) I’ve decided to give a talk on it! It’ll outline the awesome pros of remote work abroad, as well as the cons that are good to know about in advance.
This Medium Day on August 12th, I’m delighted to be one of the first talks (9:30 EST, 14:30 UK) on the pros and cons of remote working abroad.
The talk:
- is free and 30-minutes long
- outlines some of the pros and cons of remote work abroad
- shares tips from personal experience to help you prepare
- will have a live Q&A for any burning questions
I hope it will be a resource for helping you decide whether remote work abroad is for you — and for how long.
The talk will not:
- teach you how to trick employers into thinking you’re not abroad when you are
- focus on finding remote work (I’ll try to write that one up soon, though!)
- try to sell you a course or remote work abroad program
- give tax and financial advice for specific destinations
Up for joining?
Marvelous! All you have to do is sign up here, and save my talk (The Highs and Lows of Remote Travel Abroad). It’ll be on from 09:30–10am EST or 2:30–3pm UK. The site should adjust to your time zone automatically, and you can add it to your calendar as well.
This is one of several talks I’ll be giving. A few hours later I’ll be talking about the destination I get asked about the most out of everywhere — Sicily! I’ll post about that one shortly, but in the meantime do pop any questions around remote work abroad in the comments. There’ll be a live Q&A as well, but I think the talk will go quickly, so having questions in advance will help ensure I can get to them.
Really hope to see you there! And if you’re another speaker talking on Medium Day, let me know in the comments — I’d love to say hello!
Happy travels,
Jules
