Plans have been submitted for an 800-bed student accommodation block in Wolverhampton as the university moves forward with its £250 million investment plan.

The 10-storey development will be located on Stafford Street, replacing a current vacant brownfield plot, which used to contain a car showroom.

The 812-bed development will come equipped with a gym, lounge, study rooms, open plan lobby and an outdoor area as part of the E shaped building.

The scheme follows an announcement made by the university last year to invest £250m into development projects. This includes spending £65m on the Springfield Brewery construction college and £10m on a health college in West Bromwich.

The university is also building a £25m science block and an £18m business school.

Most of the funding will be taken up by the aforementioned projects, with the remaining cash being spent on research and additional staff.

JEDS Investments Ltd said of the proposal that “it complies fully with the council’s policies and other regeneration projects and would not prejudice the creation of a balance community but rather would be seen to complement developments across the city.”
