Born in Cairo, Egypt, Malak cannot describe herself as a regular AUC student because she lives at home with her parents rather than the AUC campus.

Not living on campus like the other students makes Malak feel distanced. However, she maintains good relationships with her fellow students and has made friends with some of them.

Malak is in her Sophomore year in AUC majoring in Journalism and Mass Communication(JMC). She is also interested in Economics, but she prefers to take Economics as a minor instead of a major because she describes herself as “not quite of a math person.”

In her leisure time, Malak likes going out with friends. She also likes to go to the gym regularly doing CrossFit training. However, during the COVID-19 pandemic she cannot go to the gym, and “now I am going to train at home”, said Malak with enthusiasm.

Before she started talking about her family she raised her eyebrow like she taught of something interesting and smiled. “Well, I have a sister. I am one of two twins.” Malak got excited and started talking about her sister and what is like being a twin. Her name is Yasmine.

Malak believes that having a twin sister is a blessing. She thinks that the relationship between twin sisters is the most powerful one that connects humans. “It is a kind of telepathic. I don’t know, I can’t describe it. Even if I try, you won’t get it. You need to have a twin to understand me.

At the age of 12, Malak went on a trip to London with her family and family friends The whole group went everywhere together. They had a wonderful time and on their last day in London, they visited the Madame Tussaud Museum. Everything went smooth, every single person in the group enjoyed their visit to the museum. As they were watching the wax figures of famous people around the world time went by and they didn’t notice that they have spent three hours in the museum. Malak’s father saw the time and told everyone to meet at the exit and quickly go back to the hotel. They had to pack their stuff and go catch their late-night flight. Afterward, everyone met at the exit. The group headed towards their hotel. Everyone except Malak. Nobody recognized that she was missing except her twin sister Jasmine. “She felt my absence deep inside her soul and told the whole group to go back and search for me,” said Malak with pride.

Malak likes to travel, she has been in the United Kingdom, Switzerland, France, and Italy. One day she would like to go to the U.S. and visit New York.

Malak’s career goal is to work in branding. She is interested in developing her brand and produces different products with it. She was born and raised in Cairo and does not have any plans of moving out of her city.

“I love it here; I don’t want to go anywhere else.”
