A bitterly cold evening last week didn’t slow down a group of Minnesota School of Business-Onlinegraduates and their friends as they gathered at a local bar to discuss their current careers and opportunities for promotion and employment.

Graduates and Career Services Coordinators gather for a quick group photo.

In total, the event hosted nine graduates and three “plus ones”. Each attendee was encouraged to bring a friend, an open job posting at their current place of employment, and a business card. By doing each of the three tasks, graduates earned extra opportunities to be entered in a special raffle drawing that included prizes such as Target gift cards, wine, and even the coveted Chipotle gift card!

Lesley Farnham, the Online division’s director of career services, raved about what a success the evening was. Farnham was most excited to hear about graduates who had successfully found a career in their degree field and were currently working their way up in their organizations.

Grad, Robert Shurtleff, signing into the alumni networking event.

Master’s of Science Management grad, Jennifer Overby, arrived to the event and excitedly announced she had gotten a promotion at the very work place Farnham’s team of career service coordinators had previously helped her apply to.

Business Management graduate, Robert Shurtleff, also shared what he’s been up to since graduation. Robert’s business management degree had a marketing emphasis included in it and he has since co-founded his own business calledIntegrated eMarketing Solutions. Robert says he was initially drawn to the idea of business marketing through his volunteer efforts with a local nonprofit. From there, Robert hit the ground running. He’s now helping other small business owners establish their online presence by using some of the skills he learned in the classroom.

If you’re a soon to be graduate or current alumni, be sure to keep an eye out for our next alumni networking opportunity that will be held in the northern part of the metro during the month of September. Also available to our alumni is the career resource center located in CampusConnect. Here you can browse job openings in your area and even practice your interviewing skills! Simply log into your student portal, choose Student Center and then My Career for access.
