We’ve talked about taking up physical hobbies a few days ago because it does expand our skill set, using your heightened fitness.

In today’s motivational, using your body more means breaking free of the activities and the methods that we do that, although make things more time efficient, leave us basking in a sedentary life. This in turn can skew our perceptions on the way the world is.

Australian-adventurer, Tim Cope, in his book, On The Trails of Genghis Khan, used his fitness in 2013 to go on an epic journey from the capital of Mongolia outwards towards Hungary. He aimed to see the world through the eyes of Genghis Khan as he too travelled such a path in his conquests.

The interesting thing was that while Tim Cope was travelling in Eastern Europe, he came across a Ukrainian village where he had to travel by car.

He noticed that the road to get to their destination was a winding one that would have been much faster by horseback (allowing a straight path). However, the people of the village were so into (in Tim’s opinion) the context of the car as a means for travel that the idea of cutting through the forest was just unfathomable. Ironically, technology created limited thinking.

It makes you wonder how many aspects of life have we put blinders to by embracing technology more and more. Don’t get me wrong, technology has given us immense benefits. It’s through technology that I’m able to communicate with you here, on this awesome platform.

Yet, it begs to wonder, what we’ve closed ourselves out to by embracing technology, having never known life without it. And even if we knew life without out, knowing how we fail to remain grounded in that past, could potentially leave us distant to the realities of so many others who don’t have technology’s luxury.

With that,

I encourage you to use your body more. Go do more physical labour. Walk/ride more to your destinations, when feasible.

Get out there!

Hear the sounds of the world!
