In the following article I will share my story and learnings.

My story and learnings

An engineer who loves design and code.

  • Let us begin with the final semester of my graduating year 2012. The department of Information Technology never had a magazine which would talk about all the activities. So, me and my friend Pratik without wasting any moment dived in for the annual magazine. Divided the work among the entire batch and i took the responsibility of designing the entire magazine. On our send-of ceremony, our proud batch finally came with the copies of magazine named IT.exe. Yay! One very important lesson learned in my early days — Don’t forget that people make the stuff. Relations make the bigger stuff. Get the relations and people part right, first. The rest will follow.

“Don’t forget that people make the stuff. Relations make the bigger stuff. Get the relations and people part right, first. The rest will follow.”

  • At the same time, I was helping my friend Yogesh (Business Owner- Famfit Medical India Pvt. Ltd) on his website and design stuff. My magazine work caught his attention and guess what i ended up being the Graphic & Web Designer and Web developer. Working for Famfit Medical helped me become the designer I am today. I worked on all their stuff- Branding, Hoardings, Posters, Product catalogs, Website and more. It was difficult working but that where i got my hands dirty and built the confidence of delivering stuffs. Lesson learned was — I am blooming from the wound where i once bled. Now that i have seen all — I am nothing and everything.

“I am blooming from the wound where i once bled. Now that i have seen all — I am nothing and everything.”

The next phase was the Startup phase. Two of my seniors formed a firm — The Observatory. I did the initial branding and designs (freelance) and later ended up as one of the 5 partners. Yippie!

The Startup. The Purpose. The Observatory.

The Observatory was — Finding your purpose. Purpose can be found in any position, because it has to do with how you approach a job, not the specific nature of the job. We believed in creating a positive impact, connecting with other people by building meaningful relationships and achieving continued personal growth. The 21 months of the Observatory, i worked on 18+ projects with clients coming from different part of the world. The last 3 months of the Observatory was working with Servify (as a client) and eventually become a part of Team Servify. Lesson learned — “When you’re surrounded by people who share a passionate commitment around a common purpose, anything is possible.”

“When you’re surrounded by people who share a passionate commitment around a common purpose, anything is possible.”

9 months of Servify, we applied common sense, compassion, and immediacy to an industry. It’s not just about an idea, its about the growth strategy; how we’re going to build not just a customer base, but an organisation employing tens of thousands of people and delivering what is promised. The real learning begins when you start creating. The beauty is in the challenge. The growth is in the struggle. Its here I started getting more introspective- talking about how I am contributing to it, rather than blame the other person.

I believe the past prepared me for the role I play today. In my journey there is one thing that will always stay with me — “It’s not about fetishizing finished products — it’s about celebrating the process.” Don’t believe me (check my mobile mockup sheets :)

Thank you for reading.
