Leveraging Coursera Courses To Get an Internship

The abnormal way to, what I consider, a major accomplishment.

For many people, finding an internship seems like a daunting task. What induces more fear is when one reads that in Software Engineering (SWE), Data Science (DS), or Finance to get an internship commonly involves applying to more than fifty companies. That knowledge alone can send shivers up anyone’s spine. So what needs to be done if one doesn’t fit into the “typical applicant” category? What if instead of having two years of coursework fall back on, someone only has the MOOCs (Massive Open Online Course) they’ve taken? That… is where our story begins.

Last Summer, in May, I decided I wanted to try and get an internship in Data Science for the following Summer (2019). If that wouldn’t work, I would look for something in Software Engineering or Finance. Assuming those didn’t work, I was planning on looking for a Data Analytics internship and progressively move down the line from there.

The courses I had:

Wesleyan University — Python Programming: A Concise Introduction

Stanford University — Computer Science 101
