INTRODUCTION

Hello my name is Chrisda anggraini.
This case study is a final project that I did individually organized by Guidance.id during my bootcamp. In this case study, I will make changes to the google translate application design.

OVERVIEW

Google Translate, is a service provided by Google Inc. to translate a section of text or a web page in one language into another. For some languages, users are asked to provide alternative translations, such as for technical terms, which will be included for updates in the next translation process.(sumber materi)

PROBLEM STATEMENT

This translator application, is a tool for translating foreign languages which includes 109 languages. Google Translate can translate various forms of text and media, including text, speech, and text in still images or moving images.

In this pandemic condition that requires schools to be offline, many students and even students like to use this google translation tool to help complete their assignments, they want to enjoy translation services easily, quickly and with correct, precise and appropriate translation results.
But there are obstacles in this google translate application, there are buttons that do not have descriptions, and the selection of features the user is still confused about using it.(Lebih lengkap)

USER DAN AUDIENCE

In this project I determine the User & Audience who are students or students who often use this google translate application.

SCOPE & CONSTRAINTS

In this project I will make a redesign of the google translate application, so the scope of this project is, adding features to translate documents,
Redesign the menu display, add colors, display features and also display the language selection. The one on the android or IOS application.

TOOLS

Pada pembuatan final project ini saya menggunakan beberapa tools yang sering digunakan, sebagai berikut:

  1. Canva
  2. figma
  3. Miro

PROCESS

The first thing I did to complete this project was to make a research plan.
Design Thinking

TAHAP 1 EMPHATIZE

1. Research Plan

Background

It is a service provided to translate parts of text or web pages in one language into another. This translation service can also translate various forms of text and media, which includes text, speech media, still or moving images, specifically.

To find out more about the problems of this application, the role of a UX designer is to analyze how this application can be used properly and users feel helped by this application.

Metode Research

  • Qualitative method
  • Conduct in-depth interviews
  • Question via google form
  • Respondents 5 people

Objective Research

  • Knowing the pain points in this application
  • Knowing the user’s needs and goals with this application
  • Knowing user constraints in using this application

Respondent Criteria

  • Active user of Google translate
  • Students or students who usually use this application to help make it easier for them to do foreign language assignments.
  • 17–21 years old
  • Boy and girl

2. Research Questions

At this stage, the focus will be on getting more extensive information, with the respondent’s behavior regarding the Google Translate application.

  • Have you ever heard of the Google Translate application / Google Translate?
  • Can this application help you in translating foreign languages?
Is this app easy to use or access?
  • What kind of problems do you usually encounter when using the google translate/translate application?
  • How do you rate the appearance of the google translate application?
  • What features do you feel are still not in the Google Translate application? The reason?

3. Conduct The Research

Kualitatif

I used this method to conduct in-depth interviews with 5 respondents, by conducting interviews via google forms which I distributed to my friends who were included in the respondent’s criteria.

4. User Persona

After conducting interviews with the qualitative in-depth interview method, then I created a user persona for the method. because the user persona is needed to know more about the targeted user.

TAHAP 2 DEFINE

1. Affinity Map

I made an affinity map to be able to group each user’s problems when using the google translate.

In the affinity map above, it can be seen that the problems faced by users in using the language translation application are:

  • users feel the design is too monotonous and boring
  • want a comfortable color when the user uses the Google translate application
  • Adding features to the Android or IOS application
  • feature usage instructions
  • notification feature if there is an error in writing
  • translate foreign languages conveniently, quickly and easily.

2. Emphaty Map

The empathy map is divided into doing, thinking and feeling, which are used to find out or understand the things that users experience when using the Google Translate application.

3. User Goals

user goal is to find out what goals the user wants from login to completion. In a series of research conducted, the user wants to use the translation service comfortably, chooses several features that can be used, easily so that the user is not confused when translating it and produces the appropriate translation without being messy.

4. Costumer Journey Map

In this section we can see what the user does with our application, starting from the user login, seeing the features that help translate, seeing how many languages are available, choosing a language, doing the process until the translation is complete.

TAHAP 3 IDEATE

1. User Flow

This section is used to find out the steps taken by the user to complete the task.

2. Information Architecture

This section is done to find out the flow, content and design made on an app.

3. Style Guide

4. Wireframing

  • LOW-FI (LOW-FIDELITY)
  • MID-FI (MID-FIDELITY
  • HI-FI (HIGH-FIDELITY

TAHAP 4 PROTOTYPE

At this stage, after all stages have been carried out, the prototype is the stage to introduce all design ideas to the google translate application.

TAHAP 5 TEST

In this section, I will do usability testing, helping users run the product with a new design to make it easier to use and run according to its function. with that I have included the prototype link.

The results of usability testing.

Conclusion

the conclusion of this case study is, each user has their own needs in using the google translate application, some use it to help carry out their duties, and some use this to learn foreign languages. users want to use this application easily and conveniently.

Closing

Thank you very much for reading this study case that I made, in this study case there are still many shortcomings, therefore I hope you can give criticism and suggestions, so I can improve it for the next case.
