Highlighting Some Career Paths In The Software Business

Opportunities in technology are endless and I will be lining out the different roles one can pursue in the Software sector, as well as the skills required for each role. While there are so many roles, we are going to be diving into three, as almost all the other roles, fall under this three categories.

Developers.

These are the people that build the product, they are responsible for creating the software and maintaining it, developers do the programming, if you love solving Problems and you are very logical then this path is for you, to be a very good developer, you must develop a habit of constant and continuous learning as there will always be something new to learn, it is a path that is fulfilling.

Product Managers.

These are the people in charge of a product and take responsibility for managing and ensuring that the product is built in time and according to specifications, as a product manager you will be interacting with people from different departments, from engineering to management and marketing, you will also be interacting with the customers to make sure that the products are built according to their specifications, while technical skills are not necessary, it will be awesome if you also have technical skills, as it will make communicating with the development team much easier, if you have good social skills and you like working on problems across different spectrums, then Product management is a very good path for you.

Product Marketing.

The marketing department is a very important part of every production, as you might build the most awesome product, but if people don’t know about it or you can’t convince people to use it, then it will be of no use, the product marketers are responsible for making sure the customers know of the product, and how it will be of benefit to them, the product marketers are in charge of selling the product, you must have very good social skills to work in this role.

For each of the different roles in tech, for you to be very successful in any of them, you must be constantly on the lookout for new learning opportunities, constant learning is very important as it enables you to be pick up new and relevant skills that will keep you competitive.
