We spent our first session together going over the brief and then doing some brainstorming about what interests of ours we might pursue.

We began by individually reading over the brief and marking phrases we thought were particularly intriguing. Then we came back together to talk about the phrases and questions we picked out, documenting them on post-it notes. The phrases we discussed included:

  • Simulating the real world
  • Perception of reality
  • Across space and time
  • Increase empathy
  • Create new environments
  • Keep in mind privacy, permissions
  • Retail and merchandise; new economy
  • Online identity (avatars)
  • Multi-sensory
  • Future memories
  • Global cultures
  • Overcoming constraints
  • Storytelling

From there, we took about 10 minutes to write our own ideas and areas of interest down on post-its and grouped them according to broader categories. The categories were:

  • communication
  • cross-cultural
  • health
  • education
  • economy
  • space
  • working environment
  • relationships
  • storytelling

During our next meeting, we’ll decide on a particular area to focus on as well as work on writing up our team contract.
