On the same day in 1 October 1989, forty-three infants are inexplicably born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy the day before. Cast:

Episodes:

The episodes of the third season are 10. Created by Steve Blackman, created for television by Jeremy Slater.

Thoughts:

The second season of The Umbrella Academy had ended with the Hargreeves brothers averting an apocalypse and returning home; only when they returned home they found Sir. Reginald still alive but with a new team of superheroes called Sparrow Academy, whose only member we recognize is Ben. Well yes it is an alternative present, a timeline where Reginald did not adopt Luther (Number One), Diego (Number Two), Allison (Number Three), Klaus (Number Four), Five (Number Five), Ben (Number Six) and Vanya / Victor (Number Seven), Indeed a timeline where they just don’t exist. And after a period where Five takes a break and decides to retire, things and people begin to disappear so Five tries to understand what is happening and how to fix the space-time continuum, but ends up in a location of his old agency and bad news arrives: the paradox created by their existence in a world where they should never have been born is leading to the annihilation of the universe …… AGAIN.

The series in this 3 season proves to have a greater awareness of the structure of the superhero genre, avoiding any attempt to hide the repetitive adventures that can characterize these stories: net of the expansion of the cast, each season involves a journey through time and a catastrophic event to avert, under penalty of total destruction of the world.

As in the second season, the balance between serious drama and self-deprecating action is maintained, mainly as regards the musical apparatus that in this series offers real dancing numbers to applause, already in the very first minutes of a third season which reaffirms the solidity of the writing and staging work.

The choice to focus on Sparrow Academy for this 3 Season has been decidedly winning: a mirror in which the members of Umbrella Academy see all the dysfunctions as a family and as a group of heroes, a trick to allow the series to reflect for ten episodes, without never lose sight of the main objective of entertaining with taste and intelligence, offering us protagonists that are always the same but still different, like Vanya / Viktor who represents the changing nature, with a beautiful coming out and family acceptance. Until arriving, as for the other seasons, to a conclusion that announces other interesting developments, with a new status quo that in reality, in the end, will always be consistent with the basic philosophy of the show.

Duration per episode: 40-60 minutes
