Preschool Learning Activities

Before sending their kids to preschool, parents generally have few questions on their mind — What will my child learn in preschool? Will that be enough to enter for kindergarten? The answer is more subjective than objective. Let’s understand that.

What Do Kids Learn in Preschool

Participation on a preschool program is linked to many positive outcomes for young children viz. social and cognitive development, academic skills, self-sufficiency or independence and much more. However, parents must understand that children will learn at their own pace. They should emphasize more on teaching new concepts and gradually developing their interest in learning rather than pressing them to master math or specific subject.

Following are few skills your child may develop while in preschool.

Teacher-Student Relationship — Preschool help develops positive and responsive relationships with teachers. A positive relationship with teacher has crucial impact on cognitive development of the child, which means good academic performance, mental health and interpersonal skills.

Social Skills — Preschool results in development of social skills of the child. Their frequent interaction with peers helps them learn to share, take turns and communicate properly with peers, learn to control their behavior when in group. All these skills are developed through various preschool learning activities.

Self Help — Spending the important hours in preschool teaches children to be independent. The child is taught to zip and unzip his own zippers, put on his coat, and use bathroom independently. In fact every day teachers encourage children to try new things which results in their learning. These skills that kids learn in preschool will serve them in kindergarten — and beyond.

Early Literacy — Children get frequent opportunities to read interactive book reading with teachers. This preschool activities are organized to expand their vocabulary and encourage them to ask and respond to questions about what they read and understand. Preschool teaches them to handle book, recognize letters, sounds and words; rhyme words, write letters or letter like shapes etc.
