Wind energy is the form of energy that produces electricity by converting the kinetic energy of air into electrical energy.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Wind Energy

In modern wind turbines, the wind from various regions hit the rotor blades that convert kinetic energy into rotational energy. It is transferred to electrical energy by a generator and transmitted through the power grid.

Advantages of Wind Energy

Wind energy fastest-growing renewable energy source in the world because it offers many advantages for living people. The main advantages of wind energy may include:

  • Creates good-paying jobs
  • Clean and renewable energy source
  • Economic growth in the country
  • Cost-effective source of energy

Creates good-paying jobs

Wind power creates good-paying jobs in various parts of the world including the United States and other countries and it may continue to grow. Wind turbine technicians are the second fastest-growing job of the decade.

It offers career opportunities ranging from blade fabricator to asset manager. The wind industry has the potential to support and grow day by day.

Clean and renewable energy source

Like solar energy, wind power is a clean and renewable source of energy. It uses mechanical power to create electricity by a power generator. It also provides electricity for mankind without burning any fuel or polluting the air.

Wind provides the largest source of renewable power in the United States and other parts of the world. It helps to reduce the burning of fossil fuels for electricity generation. It helps avoid millions of metric tons of atmospheric carbon dioxide emissions that cause acid rain, smog, and greenhouse gases.

Economic growth in the country

Wind power is a domestic resource that enables economic growth in the United States and other well-developed countries. It provides a significant part of electricity for these countries. Most of the investor in wind power in the world is found in the United States. Therefore, it helps to grow the United States economy.

Wind power is beneficial for local communities. Wind projects provide various tax payments and land-lease payments each year. Therefore, wind energy may give extra revenue to various counties of the world that uses in school budgets, reduce the tax burden on homeowners, and create infrastructure projects.

Cost-effective source of energy

Wind turbines provide one of the lowest-priced energy sources available for mankind. Furthermore, wind energy’s cost continues to decrease after the improvement of wind technology.

Electricity generation by wind fits well in agricultural and multi-use working landscapes that have lower land-lease payments. It is easily integrated with rural or remote areas or coastal islands where high-quality wind resources are often found.

Disadvantages of Wind Energy

  • When comparing the cost of energy for the installation of the new power project, wind and solar projects are now more economically competitive than gas, geothermal, coal, or nuclear power. Next-generation technology, improvements, and a better understanding of wind power may help to down the costs of wind projects.
  • Ideal wind sites are situated in remote locations. Therefore, it has challenges to bring electricity from wind farms to urban areas, where it is needed most of the electricity.
  • Wind power transmission also faces challenges in upgrading the transmission network and grid interconnection capabilities.
Offshore wind energy transmission and grid interconnection capabilities are improving day by day.
  • Wind turbines produce noise and cause noise pollution but the impact from wind farms is lower compared to conventional power plants.
  • Wind energy generation system impacts local wildlife. Research is still needed to minimize wind-wildlife interactions through improvement in technologies.
