THX 1138 George Lucas’s First Film
Watching THX 1138 you see similarities between that movie and the creation of Star Wars. Early in the film you sense a similarity between the characters and Storm troopers. They are all wearing the same simple uniforms and must follow the orders of their commanders. THX 1138 had no real name and was different from all the other characters in the film, I immediately made the connection to the Force Awakens where Finn who also had a designation number, FN-2187, instead of a real name. Both characters went against orders and escaped from their counterparts. THX 1138 also had holograms in the movie that looked very similar to the one’s in Star Wars.
John Williams Greatest Movie Music Composer
Star Wars has the most iconic movie soundtrack of all time, due to the work of John Williams. Williams composed the soundtracks to all eight Star War films including The Last Jedi set to release this weekend. Throughout the films Williams has produced sixteen total hours of music, including fifty-two theme songs, which is one of the largest collection of music produced for a Movie saga. Williams music evoked emotion into the scenes and explained the inner feelings of the characters in Star Wars. One of the techniques used by Williams is called a leitmotif, which is a melody that signifies a character, plot element, mood, and relationship of characters during a specific part of the film. For each main character in the movie Saga Williams has produced a unique sound for each of them that exploit their inner feelings and motives. Such as the Imperial March, which is Darth Vader theme song, when you first hear it you feel the sense of darkness and anger to the melody that really describes Vader’s character. William’s unique sound of Star Wars has been inspired by other composers who made music for Star Wars video games as well as spin off movies such as Rogue One. Michael Giacchino was the composer of Rogue One though his music was different than Williams you could hear the similarities between the composers. Giacchino composed the song A Long Ride Ahead in the song you can hear the similar tone of the Imperial March.
RALPH MCQUARRIE
Ralph’s art allowed George Lucas to produce the iconic shots in the movie based off his drawings. Lucas had the vision of the characters, but Ralph was able to bring these characters to life and made Lucas role of making these images into the movie much easier. Ralph’s original drawings of Star Wars allowed Lucas the ability to sell the original script of the movie to the studios. Ralph drawings has even inspired other artist to produce Star War like animation films.
