The Star Wars costume design was amazing especially in the beginning of the filming of Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi because George Lucas had to explain the artistic idea of Star Wars. The costume design was alot for hot days and was even inspired by military uniforms.Especially because George Lucas especially wanted non-science fiction clothing. His love for costume design came from his childhood and inspired his preference for specifically military costumes.

“George did not want the costumes to look like sci-movies,” says French, “He wanted them beat-up and dirty, and pulling from US and European military history.’’

One of the most important pieces of costume design to work on were the storm troopers. Even though it was obvious that the storm troopers were military, the inspiration was an unlikely one.

The most difficult costume for Mollo to bring to life was the Stormtrooper costume.

Mollo tried to make the troopers look like a kind of impersonal robotic army, and for inspiration, he actually turned to medieval knights.

Star wars may have been a origianl work of art as a whole, but it was made by a multitude of different inspirations. The costume design was inspired by the unlikely militaries of the US and the medival knights of Europe.

I will be excited to continue unpack the gift that continues to give, Star wars.

Mollo tried to make the troopers look like a kind of impersonal robotic army, and for inspiration, he actually turned to medieval knights.
