Let me start by saying that we all have a class that we will be or have been terrified to take. For me, it was Business Statistics. I am sure some of you can relate and there must be others who aced the class. But from hearing crazy stories from classmates to actually experiencing it in real life, here is my take on it! I walked in on the first day of class with my red notebook (you can’t pass this class without it, literally your holy grail) and my little calculator. I sat through the first lecture and I was like this class seems easy. But you know the saying “Don’t judge a book by its cover” well I was definitely judging! The first few lectures before our first exam I seemed to understand. But then came the homework’s, they were cruel, oh so cruel! The very first homework took me 6 hours to complete. Apart from homework we also had to do daily problems twice a week. Now when you hear the term “daily problem” you would think it’s going to be a simple problem and it won’t take long. Jokes on you because it took anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour, sometimes even longer. Is this real life? Am I really paying for this class? Is this worth it?
Now let’s move to the exams. I walked into CASA (testing center) to take the first test and I left feeling confident. One week later and our grades are posted and guess what? I made a 58. Down goes that confidence! Now let’s move forward to the second exam, after the 58 I made the first time I knew I had to study way harder! So guess what I did? Popped an Addy! WORST DECISION OF MY LIFE. I stayed awake for 2 days straight. I felt like a zombie when I took the second exam and apparently so did my grade because it didn’t fluctuate from a 58. I was so frustrated and overall annoyed of this class because it took over my life! Oh, by the way, I forgot to mention that math is not my favorite subject maybe that played a big role in this? Yeah, I think so too. Never did I think I would need a tutor for any of my undergrad classes but boy was I wrong! Right after finding out my grade I knew there was no way I could pass this class without a tutor. So I found one, our very own Noor Lalani (The founder of StudyTact). If it wasn’t for Noor tutoring me and helping me with homework’s I don’t know how I would have passed. So I went from not wanting a tutor to meeting Noor once a week. But you know what? Something amazing came out of this, I actually started understanding Stats (well I like to believe I did). After meeting with Noor countless times I now had my confidence again! I went in to take my last exam and made an 86 and guess what? I passed the class (with a C+ but at least I passed lol). What I got out of this was that it is never too late to get help! You never know how much you don’t know? If that makes sense. I thought I knew what I was doing but when I got someone who actually knew Stats it made much more sense. That class was a roller coaster for me but I am so glad it’s over. Take my advice and get help in whatever subject you need help in! For me, it worked wonders and I hope your tutor will do the same for you!
