Fried Dahl

Just fried Dahl, no magic here… It is delicious though…

Serves 2

Wash 1 cup of red lentils

Boil in at least 3 cups water (ultimately you’ll want this to be a slightly think ‘soup’) and

  • 1 sliced red onion
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 Tbp grated ginger
  • 1tsp tumeric pwoder / grated tumeric
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp Kasmiri chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp toasted / ground
  • salt / browth cube

Cook until the dahl starts to fall apart, then cook down until you have a thick liquid.

In the meanthime quarter some vine tomatoes and grill in oven. Once one put these into the dahl (you could also add the tomatoes earlier or fry them in a pan).

Temper / top with the follwoing fried in quite a bit of coconut oil

  • thinly sliced red until (fried until brown crips)

take out, briefly fry

  • garlic
  • one split green chili
  • mustard seeds
  • cumin seeds
  • asafoetida
  • fresh curry leaves

pour over dahl, top with the fried onions.
You can also add some fresh coriander leaves.

Serve with rice and maybe one other curry.
