Few hours ago, we got a phone call and a twitter mention. Listen up, these were not the normal call nor mention we usually get, these were super excited recently hired interns through the just concluded Nigeria Internship Fair by Stutern (on Oct 1 2016). One of them was hired by Ringier while the other by MAX Delivery Service. We couldn’t be more excited.

Nigeria Internship Fair by Stutern was a significant event that rapidly evolved within 48 days from just an idea to a solution and that was largely backed by 32 employers, 3354 candidates, 12 partners, the growing team at Stutern and the 10 most incredible volunteers from University of Lagos (UNILAG).

At Stutern, we closely watch three metrics and these metrics also applied to the fair. We are talking about Revenue, Placements and User Growth.

Revenue

Walt Disney famously said “We don’t make movies to make money, we make money to make more movies”. Same goes for us at Stutern, for us to build a sustainable solution across Africa and other developing countries, we need to be very watchful that we deliver enough value that can be paid for. With the fair, we made more than 50% margin. This was also possible because of a planner and budget sheet that Anike of Mamalette shared with us at the early stage of the fair.

Placements

This is what we work for. Whenever we successfully place a candidate who is ready to learn the workplace skills we get excited. Since the fair was a giant interview, we are still getting reports of candidates who were instantly hired, some who were just recently hired and most who are still scheduled for a next stage interview.

User Growth

Kelvin Balogun, President, Coca-Cola Central, East and West Africa recently mentioned that “Almost half of the 10 million graduates churned out of the over 668 universities in Africa yearly do not get job” Pufff! That is so true. Sure enough, we had more than 3000 sign ups during the campaign for the fair many of which were recent graduates, and we are excited to even connect many of these bright and energetic youths with more employers after the fair. If you are looking to hire interns in Nigeria, my DM is open. We will connect you with the best talents for your business irrespective of the field. And I mean it, I can defend that we have all we need. Sub-Africa records more than 70% youth population. This is no joke, neither is it a ticking time bomb, it is abundant opportunity; only if we create more jobs and graduate more employable youths. That is why you should check out Stutern.

The most important article that made the fair a success was by Jason Zook.

Next? We are storming more universities soon. Reach out if you will love to join the movement! Or just reach out to say hi.

Finally, we are grateful to God for this.
Let’s go out and execute now.
