Yes, we love alliteration, just as much as we love these innovative THINX undies that will protect from embarrassing moments when you’re having your period.

YES! FINALLY!

How does it work, you ask? Yeah, we did too. They use patented technology (called THINX QuadTECH®) which is made up of four ultra-thin micro-layers that all work together to ensure each and every pair is completely antimicrobial, moisture-wicking, leak-resistant, and absorbent.

So far, so useful, but why do they appear on an ethical style blog?

It began, as it always does, with a story. One of the NYC-based founders, Miki, travelled to South Africa in 2010 and took a trip to a rural area on a weekday where she met a 12 year-old girl. Miki asked, “Why aren’t you in school?” The girl quietly responded, “It’s my week of shame”.

Upon her return to New York, she and fellow cofounders Radha and Antonia found that 100 million girls around the world miss school just because they lack the sanitary supplies they need to manage their periods. As they say on their site: “They knew that they could somehow use the innovative idea of magic period underwear to support these girls. And BOOM. THINX was born.”

The THINX mission is…

We see a world where no woman is held back by her body. We will work proudly and tirelessly until every single girl has an equal opportunity for the brighter future she deserves. By reimagining feminine hygiene products to provide support, comfort, confidence, and peace of mind, we aim to eliminate shame, empowering women and girls around the world.

Yes!

And what about their supply chain, you say? Well, THINX are made in a family-run factory in Sri Lanka that provides education and training to its female employees, empowering them to become leaders in their communities.

And when you buy a pair of these unicorn undies, they send funds to AFRIpads, which is on the ground in Uganda employing over 150 women. AFRIpads trains them to sew and sell washable, reusable cloth pads, turning them into entrepreneurs. A girl is able to purchase an affordable and sustainable pack of these pads, keeping them in school every day of the month.

So, we love them and think you will too.

In London? THINX are coming to town next week and setting up shop in Shoreditch from Wednesday 9 December to Saturday 12 December. Yep, so that means pretty period-proof panties without postage… YES!
