Borrowed From the Boys

Guys- lock your closets and stash away all your favorite pieces because women are raiding your wardrobe this season. The latest trend for womenswear has been menswear looks. Menswear is transcendent, and the oversized aesthetics of menswear gives womenswear an androgynous edge. Incorporating men’s clothing into your wardrobe gives you the freedom to play with proportions while mastering the not-so-typical “cool girl” look. Below are a few men’s styles to incorporate in your wardrobe to achieve on-trend, borrowed from the boys looks.

Button-Up Shirt

An essential part of your casual wardrobe is the classic button-up shirt. An oversized button-up shirt is simple, yet stylish and can be styled in various ways. To add a touch of femininity, wear the top with a lace bralette, denim, heels, and dainty accessories. If your beau’s button-up is three times your size, opt to wear it as a dress with sandals, knit boots, or heels depending on the season.

Trousers

If there was ever a doubt who wears the pants, when women rock menswear trousers, the answer is evident. High-waisted or low-slung on your hips, loose-fitting trousers not only make a statement, but they’re also comfortable and give us ladies a well-deserved break from skinny jeans. Trousers can be worn with sneakers for a casual look or with heels to dress up your attire.

Loafers

Give your heels a rest and opt for loafers instead. Loafers can take any guy’s and gal’s style to the next level. This chic twist on a typical men’s style can add an edge to your typical work-wear look or even a night out. Supple leather, eye-catching metal hardware, and rich details will definitely up your fashion game with slip-on ease and effortless sophistication. Bottom line: every woman should have this quintessential dress shoe in her footwear collection.

Graphic Tees

I think we’re all guilty of this one — whether it’s your boyfriend’s, brother’s or dad’s tee from the ‘80s… we can’t get enough of the graphic tees. Graphic tees are a versatile and comfortable staple for everyone’s closet. Tees can be styled with an oversized jacket and heels, or you can go for a more laid-back look and pair it with denim and sneakers for a classic look. Graphic tees add a nice statement to your ensembles and can be worn all year-round.

Jackets

Usually, women are guilty of stealing their boyfriend’s hoodies, but we say bypass the hoodie and go straight for the jackets. Denim jackets, leather jackets, military-style — grab them all. Jackets, let-alone oversized men’s jackets can be a little tricky to style so it’s important to get creative with your looks. Balance out the bagginess of the jacket with a fitted dress, or go full-on tomboy and pair it with boyfriend jeans and a loose tee.

Beanies & Hats

There was definitely a time when men knew more about styling hats and beanies but luckily for us, those days are long gone. Hats and beanies not only get the job done of keeping your head warm and your hair in-tact when the weather is out of whack, but it also levels up your style. Dad caps and slouchy beanies of any color, print, or pattern can give your look the cool and sporty edge it needs. Like graphic tees, hats and beanies can be worn all year-round.
