So your best-friend has decided to host a retro themed party for her wedding gala. And apart from mehendi, sagan and other functions you are in a major dilemma to choose an equally awesome dress for a themed retro party as well.

Retro Dressing can be a tricky affair because ours is the Katrina Kaif generation. We can rock the party in western dresses but we are still novices in desi retro looks. Despite that we can’t negate Mumtaz’s sultry sarees or Hema Malini’s tight fitted churidar suits.

Anyways, Boho is the new cool. And we can always get colourful and crazy with it. So here is a shortcut to dress like that. All you need to do is simply follow these 5 tips and be party ready quickly –

The DUM MAARO DUM Look :

Who can forget Zeenat Aman in ‘Hare Krishna Hare Ram’? She rocked the desi avatar when everyone was running after one piece dresses. You can also add that Boho touch to your look by wearing a short colourful kurti with a contrasting pair of pants.

To complete the whole look, wear a long length bindi on your forehead and tie genda phools around both the wrists. If you would like to be more adventurous, pair some genda phools with your hairdo as well. It’s not just a vibrant look but also a unique one.

The Hawa Hawaii Look :

If there was something called ‘Accessory is the King’ then this title would definitely be awarded to Sridevi for her plethora of jewelleries and accessories in the Hawaa Hawaii song.

Rock your Retro dress-up by adding a lot of jewellery to your usual dress. Along with golden danglers and life-size crown, don’t forget to wear an oversized jewel embedded golden watch! And, to look even more glamorous, a perfect makeup is all that you need. And after adding blink blush to your cheeks, you are ready for a pink pout selfie.

The BOBBY Look :

A high ponytail, light make-up and a polka dot velvet touch top, combine these three and you would resemble Dimple Kapadia from the song ‘Hum tum ik kamre mein band ho’ of the film Bobby.

This look is a perfect choice when you don’t want to spend. A polka dot dress or a polka dot top is always in trend, and you would surely find one such dress in your wardrobe. Just harness your inert creativity by blending this top with palazzos and bright platform heels.

The DHAL GAYA DIN Look :

Do you remember this Jitendra and Leena Chandavarkar song, after which badminton became a favourite game of lovers. You sure do remember. If not, then we’ll recreate the look for you.

Wear a punky pink or a sunshine yellow slim fit suit and use the dupatta as a headband. You can accesorise the whole look by wearing golden jhumkas and shiny bangles, in order to highlight the retro element of your look.

The DIL DHADAKNE DO Look :

If you fear experimenting with your overall appearance, never mind, we have a blend option for you. Get inspired by Priyanka Chopra and Anushka Sharma from their film- Dil Dhadakne Do’s title track.

You can wear a simple but bright one-piece dress; just make sure you choose colours like red, yellow, dark blue or green. The next step is to work on your hairdo, you can try long side bangs as they suit all face cuts. Finish the look with retro sunglasses.

So do let us know how you experimented with the retro looks! Keep dressing up!
