“Dream of the Rood”

This poem is an old christian poem that is a perfect example of dream poetry. It tries to appeal to Anglo-Saxons from a pagan culture. The poem was discovered on an old cross and it was carved into the cross. This poem is very interesting and the tree has such a tragic role because it was forced to be an attachment to the death of Jesus Christ. The tree itself also felt the nails being driven into itself as they were hammered through Christ. The tree felt and understood the pain and suffering that Christ went through. The tree was once an instrument and symbol for death and pain. Now, it is a symbol for forgiveness and redemption amongst the christian community.
