Stories have been told from the beginning of time. Stories are important because they help us bond with one another. There are many different kind of stories, such as cautionary tales, fantasies, horror stories, fiction or non fiction, or just childhood stories. Stories are important because they can connect people together and pass culture down from generation to generation and can help others understand different cultures as well.

“Canterbury Tales” by Chaucer explores a number of stories. “The Knight’s Tale” Part one and two explores the story of two men falling in love with a woman and the theme of “the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.” While Arcite is freed he is also banished and can no longer see Emelye, Palamon can still see Emelye every day but he is still imprisoned. Arcite is jealous that Palamon can see Emelye every day while he cannot, and Palamon is also upset because he believes that Arcite will attack Athens and take Emelye. This story is relatable to modern day because we as humans cannot help but constantly compare our station in life to others and may not appreciate what we have and that in fact the grass is not always greener. The story may also be relatable because I’m sure everyone at some point in their life has been in love with someone that they could not be with. Either way you feel sorrow for these two men.
