Stories come in many different forms and it is almost impossible to put into words how important of a role they play within daily life. Whether they be verbal, written, acted out, or even sung. But each one holds great importance because without stories there would be no sense in living.

Sounds extreme I know, however, think about it. What is the importance of traveling to another country and not telling your family and friends about it? What is the importance of completing a life long goal, and never telling a soul? It is human nature to be social and tell the stories of our lives, all the trials, all the triumphs. Story telling is the way in which we inform people of our lives, it is also an escape we can use in our lives. Through making up fictional stories. Stories are a form of expression, whether it is fictional or not.

This form of expression is prevalent in “The Canterbury Tales” as each character has their own story to tell. This happened within the prologue and the author of the story used it to set up the background for each character. Playing into their character development. And much like within their stories, we all have a story of our own to tell. Each story we hold is a form of development and growth, as that is how we learn is through experience. Much like those in “The Canterbury Tale”.

In conclusion, stories are a way of life and cannot be contained into just written fictional events. Every part of our lives can be a story and it is our choice which ones we choose to elaborate on. Stories hold great importance in everyone’s lives even if they never truly realized it before.
