Whatever brought Brad Rose back, I’m all for. Digitalis was an all-time label, and judging by the first four releases from The Jewel Garden, he hasn’t missed a step. Avenoir takes us to church in a shared moment of remembrance. Don’t call it nostalgia, though the album’s title derives from the desire of memories to flow backwards. Thankfully, Rose goes upstream, searching for new paths even as we celebrate the well-trodden ones of bygone days. Digitalis was a blueprint, The Jewel Garden is the finished product.
