Subsail’s July updates

July was another great month for Subsail development (and signups!).

Here’s what’s new!

Gift subscriptions

A much-requested feature—and a standard option when selling magazine subscriptions—gift subscriptions were added early in the month. Gift subscriptions can be turned on in your Sell settings; when enabled, customers will see an extra toggle in the checkout form, which will show gift-related fields in the checkout.

I tried my hardest to make gift subscription checkout the smoothest available today (no need to click on a link and visit another page, like most other providers).

Powerful filtering and sorting

Managing your subscribers and their subscriptions got a lot easier, with new filters and sorting tools. Both subscriber and subscription views are now easy to drill down into, to reveal insights on your subscriber base, or to find details about a specific sub-group of your readers.

Weekly digest emails

I love getting emails showing the health or current status of an account I run. They surface key numbers and let me check in on my account while I’m in my inbox.

This was the impetus behind Subsail’s new weekly digest emails, which show some important metrics about your account every Monday.

All the other updates ⚡️

CSV formatting options

I added some options to CSV uploading for those in countries which use comma decimal markers (eg 1.200,50 instead of 1,200.50). There are quite a few!

Add notes to subscriptions

You can now add internal notes on each subscription, helping to save extra information. A Notes column is also available when exporting from spreadsheets.

New activity types

Your dashboard when you log in shows all the recent activity that has happened in your account. New activity types show in your list include manually added sales and recurring charges.

Add “sent” status and send dates on Subscription page

You can now add a sent status (and related date) to subscription issues from a subscription’s page. This was previously only available from the Subscription Issues page.

Record external renewals

If you have imported recurring subscriptions that run on a different payment system, it’s now really easy (and quick!) to add a renewal to a subscription in Subsail. Clicking the “Add a new period” button sends you to a form where you can input the order and issue details, which will extend the subscription.

New subscription data

Two new fields are available when importing, manually adding or editing subscriptions : “Comp” (if the subscription is complimentary) and “Recurring” (to denote if an imported subscription recurs outside Subsail)

When viewing subscriptions, it’s now possible to view each subscriber’s lifetime value (“LTV”), showing you how much they have spent on your subscriptions.

That’s all for July. I have a few small updates coming in the rest of August, and a lot of migrating for customers.

Let me know if you have questions; I love hearing from you!
