How did Polkadot and Kusama do in 2022?
The Ecosystem was busy building and developing. Here are some impressive highlights.
1/ Three key phrases summarized 2022 for Polkadot and Kusama Ecosystem Development: technological advancement, builder community expansion, and education initiatives. In total, there were 6 major releases, 700+ community events & 2 major education initiatives.
2/ During @PolkadotDecoded 2022, @tomaka17 from Parity Technologies gave a presentation on the in-browser & embeddable light clients. Top wallets in the ecosystem that have integrated light clients include SubWallet, Nova Wallet & Talisman.
3/ May 4th marked a historical moment for the Polkadot community: with v9190 upgrade, #XCM was officially live on Polkadot, allowing parachains to communicate securely and seamlessly.
4/ After months of brewing, OpenGov or Gov2 was enacted on Kusama Network and the Polkadot Fellowship was founded with the first 45 fellows. These ranked tech experts will succeed the Technical Committee & act in the best interest of the ecosystem.
5/ 2022 was also the year of the Common Good: while Statemint became fully functional on Polkadot, the community voted for the second system parachain Collectives to go live. The first Collective founded was the Polkadot Fellowship.
6/ Acala Network, Astar Network, Interlay, KILT Protocol, Moonbeam Announcements, Subscan, and Phala Network founded the second on-chain collective: Polkadot Alliance, with the mission of ensuring standards of excellence across the ecosystem.
7/ The highlight of Q4 2022 was the launch of Nomination Pools along with Polkadot Staking Dashboard! Now users can stake natively with as low as 1 DOT.
In just 4 days after launch, 64/64 pools were opened.
8/ After 2 years, the Polkadot Developer Conference #sub0 came back in-person in Lisbon and welcomed 550+ Substrate engineers. With 50+ speakers from 30+ projects presenting through 40+ sessions, the 2-day conference was a resounding success!
9/ This year @PolkadotDecoded outdid last year’s #PolkadotParachainParty & became the biggest Polkadotevent of all time
Together with 3000+ attendees in 4 cities, 302,000+ people from 153 countries tuned in to the online streaming.
10/ #PolkadotHackathon continued to happen all around the globe. The North American edition saw 1100+ participants submitting 80+ projects, whereas the Latam edition welcomed 353 hackers & 41 projects.
11/ Two intakes of the new #PolkadotDevCamp received 1600+ applications for just 40 available spots. All participants successfully completed the program and learned how to build substrate blockchains.
12/ After the first successful Academy in @Cambridge_Uni in 2022, the 4-week classroom-based Polkadot Blockchain Academy is coming to Buenos Aires in January 2023! #Web3 adoption is speeding up.
13/ In October, Web3 Foundation Team collaborated with @edXOnline to introduce online courses covering the fundamentals of blockchain and Polkadot technology, as well as the substrate framework & rust.
