this magnificent day

for Min & Leigh

Early evening Sunday hour,
not a time of great power,
really time to take a shower
and call it a day

It’s been a fine one
with my two angels
flying around the city,
me holding the string

Let it out, pull it in,
swoop and rise, stall and fall,
dandelions dancing in the wind,
too precious almost twins,

sharpened wit beyond their years
sprinkled with crocodile tears
I watch in awe, kneel in prayer
run my fingers through their hair,

heads rested on my lap,
too little time to call a nap
at the end of this long hot summer day
on the subway back to mom

These two girls who own my heart
led the way on this magnificent day
