1. Rickie’s first all-orange outfit was not intentional
Cobra Puma Golf’s global head of apparel, Kristine Hinze, joined The Daily Rally to discuss how she hand-picked Rickie’s signature orange and recalled the shock she received when she first saw Fowler in the all-orange jumpsuit.
“So originally we were just making him some orange pants and we would do white polos with an orange cap for him to wear on Sundays. And then someone in sports marketing asked me ‘can you flip it’ and make him some orange polos and white pants with an orange cap.
And a couple weeks later we deliver it and on that first Sunday he shows up on camera in head-to-toe orange. Part of me was horrified — as the product person — but on the other hand, it totally changed the golf world. Rickie really stood out from the crowd. People absolutely adore him and you couldn’t ask for anything more. and he’s a great, great guy.”
2. Speaking of fashion, there are two things Rickie will never EVER wear on the golf course…
In an interview with Fox Sports Fowler said:
“ I’ll tell you this: I wouldn’t wear crimson or burnt orange under any circumstances”
(the colors of rival schools Oklahoma and Texas…Fowler is an Oklahoma State alumni).
3. In that same Fox Sports interview, Fowler revealed when he got his first victory playing golf…
“I started playing more and more tournaments and got my first win around seven years old. When I did start winning, that’s when I decided to hire a coach.”
4. That coach would be Barry McDonnell, Rickie has had one other coach since McDonnell and that is Butch Harmon
McDonnell told a close friend of Fowler’s that Rickie should go to Butch since Barry knew was dying. Fowler didn’t learn that until after he started working with Harmon. Funny how the world works…
5. Fowler’s mother, Lynn, once told him that she would not buy him a new club if he broke one of his in anger on the golf course
Lessons like that are the reason Fowler is so even-keel when it comes to facing adversity on the golf course.
6. Fowler is the youngest player to ever make the U.S. Ryder Cup team
In 2010, a 21-year- old Fowler, made the Ryder Cup team after enjoying a very prosperous rookie season, which ended with him capturing the PGA Tour ROY award over Rory McIlroy.
7. Even though Fowler’s favorite sports growing up were golf and motocross racing, he still enjoyed baseball and especially pitching
As a pitcher, he liked that he was in control of the game, just like he could be in racing or on a golf course.
8. Fowler has an alter-ego, Dick Fowler Private Investigator. He assumed this alter-ego for a series of State Farm commercials
9. Since 2014, Fowler has not fallen out of the Top-15 in the Official World Golf Ranking. The highest point he has reached is №4 in the world
