Rickie Fowler’s Oblique Strain Confirmed…Will Miss the Northern Trust this Week
Rickie Fowler took to Instagram on Wednesday to let his fans know the severity of his injured oblique. The news was other than ideal:
“News got out last week that I was dealing with an oblique injury the past two tournaments…it was confirmed yesterday, via MRI, that I have a partial tear in my right oblique…my team and I feel like it’s best not to play next week in the Northern Trust…I will be back healthy and competitive ASAP for the FedEx Cup and more than ready for the Ryder Cup!!” - Rickie Fowler
Fowler sustained this injury while playing the weekend before the PGA Championship. Fowler had stellar performance in the first three rounds of the season’s final major championship, scoring 65–67–69. But a final-round 71 took Fowler out of contention as he was only three shots back of the leader - and eventual winner - Brooks Koepka.
Generally, oblique strains take about 2–3 weeks to heal but in Fowler’s case he will aim to be back to compete in the FedEx Cup playoff race as well as the Ryder Cup later on this fall.
The goal for Fowler will be to receive as much treatment and rest for as long as possible as he will be an integral part of a Ryder Cup team looking to defend its 2016 title on enemy soil in Paris.
