Why Become an Author?
Why become an author? — Before I answer this, can you tell me why people do stunts like climbing mountains, bungee jumping, racing cars, etc? Simple, they do it for the thrill it gives them and for the distraction from the dull monotonous lives they may be leading. Similarly, writing a book gives its own thrills without having to do dangerous stunts. Secondly, it will eliminate stress from your life. As you are aware stress is a major unavoidable problem for every individual in every complex and fast-paced workplace. Your workplace will have several stress generators and frequent troublesome issues for every employee right from the janitor to the CEO. Constant changes in the workplace, new technologies, reorganizations, work pressures, impatient bosses, irrational customer demands, traffic, etc., can create enormous stress for employees at every level. Gradually such workplace issues can engulf your personal life at home and wreak havoc on the family. This is because a stressed-out employee can not only cause problems for himself, but can also pass on that pain to his or her family members.
Now one of the best techniques to forget about workplace headaches after your business hours is to cultivate a good and everlasting hobby. Hobbies can eliminate your stress, loneliness, and its associated depression. Individuals who are involved with some hobby are usually much happier than people who do not have any hobby. Writing and publishing books is one such good and everlasting hobby that you can continue even when you get old and physically weak. Other advantages of becoming an author are it will teach you humility, help you gain and share knowledge, teach you the mysteries of life, position yourself as an expert, attract clients, get speaking opportunities, give you deep personal satisfaction, help earn some pocket money, build contacts, build credibility and respect in society, get fans and testimonials, change lives, make you a better human being, and so on. Writing and publishing are also listed in the top twenty professions on our planet because if you write a book you are perceived as an authority or expert in something. So, it is worth giving it a try.
So, go ahead and boldly write your first sentence and don’t let the three fears haunt you. As a Chinese proverb says, the journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.
