Suddenly Virtual: Introducing the Virtual Services Toolkit: The Basics

by Liana Volpe and Amanda Bombino

The John J. Heldrich Center for Workforce Development at Rutgers University recently launched a Suddenly Virtual series of products highlighting the challenges facing the public workforce system and how frontline staff are stepping up to solve them. Earlier this week, we released, Suddenly Virtual: A Practical Guide for Frontline Service Providers During the COVID-19 Pandemic. The brief focused on the specific tools and practices that frontline staff are using to conduct their work.

Now we are releasing Virtual Services Toolkit: The Basics. This toolkit provides more detail on the technologies workforce staff are using, including step-by-step instructions for signing up and using these tools.

The areas of technology covered in the toolkit include:

> Voice and conference calls

> Video conferencing services

> Creating and sharing documents

> Messaging

We anticipate adding to this toolkit as we continue working with practitioners to work remotely and provide virtual services.

Liana Volpe is a Research Associate, and Amanda Bombino is a Research Intern at the Heldrich Center.
