I Quit My Job Today, And Now I Have More Time To Work
Who knew that unemployment would bring rewards
I resigned from my job as a direct support professional on Friday. I didn’t have clients for seven months, so I was overdue. Minutes later, I started a new Substack publication dedicated to editing tips.
The Universe transpired to bring me work when I let go of what no longer served me, and I stepped into the opportunity. I also felt a rush of ideas, which inspired me to write more freely.
I quit because the organization no longer fit my needs. They serve disabled adults at home and in the community, a role I excel at but don’t want to do anymore. I had enough boundaries that none of the individuals they offered were a good match. If I kept the job without respecting my limits, I would have failed to serve them well.
I think it’s important to enjoy one’s work. We spend most of our hours there, so why not give that time the attention it deserves?
Why did I pivot from intensive one-on-one behavioral health care to writing and editing? I had another nudge a month ago when an acquaintance asked me to edit their manuscript. It’s his debut novel, and I was honored to take on the project.
