Believe it or not Bolivia has GREAT potential for growing coffee, however coffee farms are decreasing at an alarming rate. Before we get into coffee in Bolivia, here are some facts about the country.

  • Bolivia is the size of Colombia and Ethiopia.
  • Bolivia has about 11 million inhabitants.
  • Bolivia is landlocked which means it takes more time and money to export coffee.

While there is not much on the history of coffee in Bolivia, here are 5 facts about coffee in Bolivia.

  1. Farmers in Bolivia often switch between coffee in cocoa production depending on market prices which is a huge reason coffee farms are being seen less and less.
  2. Typicca and Caturra are what is usually grown in Bolivia.
  3. In the past coffee was transferred to a Central Processing Center which resulted in loss of quality and undesirable flavors.
  4. 95% of the country’s coffee is produced in the Yungas region.
  5. Many people have traveled on Bolivia’s “Road of Death ‘’ to get coffee.
