Summee User Newsletter #1: Welcome
If you’re reading this… Welcome to Summee. This post is the first of what will be a continual series of weekly newsletters from Summee’s creators to our awesome users.
To start, we wanted to say thanks for giving our young site a chance, and hope that you’ve enjoyed your experience so far. The best part of being a Summee user right now is that you will get to see the site grow and improve day-by-day as you return to the site for summaries of your class readings for school, news articles you didn’t get the chance to read all the way through, or that long report your boss sent you that really isn’t worth your time.
Generally, the weekly newsletters will be formatted with a similar structure: 1. What’s New for the Week, 2. Weekly Summaries Review, and 3. What to Look for Next. However, with this being the first newsletter, we felt it would be rude if we didn’t first take the time to provide a little background on the team behind the site. We’re a group of twenty-somethings with a passion for creating something great. As recent college graduates, we know how little time most college students have — and how those past their college years facing the pressures of adulthood often have even less. That’s where the idea of Summee was born. We sought to create something that we would use to help simplify our daily routines, that could then be shared with others and be used around the globe. We hope that your experience with Summee to this point has been a good one, but are always welcome to hearing feedback from users on how we can continue to improve our site, so don’t be afraid to shoot us an email or direct message on Twitter and we’ll get back to you shortly.
- What’s New for the Week
Given that this is our first newsletter, just about everything is new! However, for those that have been with Summee since we started, you’ll notice a few distinct changes that have just been made to the site. First, we decluttered the front page by creating a new page dedicated to summarizing (as opposed to the old front page that was a hectic one-stop-shop) . Getting a summary is just as easy as before, but it can now be done on the page marked with the “Summarize” tab. The new “How Does it Work” tool on the “Summarize” page provides a tutorial to new users getting their first summary and are unsure how to do so. If you’re reading this newsletter, you’ve discovered that we have also created a new page where we will display messages like these as a medium to update users on the site and share some of our favorite site content for each week.
- Weekly Summaries Review
This part of the newsletter houses the fun stuff. As our user base continues to grow and we get more of a sample size for the type of summaries ran on the site each week, we’ll use our website analytics to provide a list of trending topics of the week that were part of the most summaries. Additionally, our team at Summee will pick out our favorite summary of the week for each newsletter, showcasing what we voted on as the most interesting piece of summarized text submitted by our users for a given week. Our Newsletter #1 winner for our favorite summary of the week goes to the user that summarized the New York Times article “How to Boil the Perfect Egg” (https://www.nytimes.com/2019/09/23/dining/how-to-hard-boil-eggs.html). It looks like we have some culinary enthusiasts among our users, and we hope that our summary helped you save a little time while perfecting your breakfast. We’ll test our hand at perfect-egg-boiling at Summee HQ using the summary you created, thanks!
3. What to Look for Next
A multitude of exciting changes and additions are planned for the coming weeks and months, but we wanted to give the users a glimpse at some of our favorites. One of the most exciting updates to look for in the future will be the addition of a summary-storage database, which will house all summaries made via the site, allowing users to access old summaries, discover what other users are summarizing, and find archived summaries for readings that they may be looking for. Additionally, Summee is now on social media. Be sure to follow us on Twitter @SummeAi and on Instagram @SummeSummaries.
Thanks for reading, check back for next week’s newsletter!
