JULY 8 + 10

Content

Read all content and highlight. Meet with Jon from Cryptogram on Wednesday to discuss printing methods. Email another DAAP grad on printing thoughts.

  • Jami Miles (You Know What) Email is jami.ann.miles@gmail.com.
  • Hannah Sellers (The Blacker the Berry) Email is hannahsellers25@gmail.com

JULY 15+ 17

Content

Continue to read all content and highlight. Email Health and Sexuality professor, Carol Peterson. (She is out of town for a while) Email another DAAP grad on printing methods and advice. Who else should I contact??

  • Audrey Law (Conversations with Midwestern Artists on Gender) Email is audreylawdesign@gmail.com.
  • Sara Thompson (Chemo-cation) Contact info not listed.
  • Katie Them (Mendful) Contact info not listed.

Begin aggregating content in Pages or a Google Doc. That way, I can decide on what age range I can focus on. Would LOVE to have all ages in the final book (age 3–18) but that might be too much information. Might have to narrow down to the younger years. During this process, I can start to see the level of copy I have and make decisions on how much I will use in my final.

JULY 22+ 24

Content + Design Exercises

Email killerandasweetthang. Email is KAAST@wmeentertainment.com

Begin developing a name. Will I have a logotype for the “brand” of the book? Or will it just be the title? Create 2 sessions of 10 images on letter-sized paper. Experiment with mediums and styles.

JULY 29+ 31

Organizing + Design One Page

Begin organizing the content through small incremental design. What that means is making a visual hierarchy through type styles for body copy, subtitles and chapter titles. This is mainly for my benefit so I myself can make sense of the information.

Take a stab at designing one page.

AUGUST 5 +7

Design Exercise/ Exploration

Design several pages, 5 minimum visual directions for one spread.

AUGUST 12 (Future deliverables for me after the semester ends)

Decision Making

Decide on a size for the book. Decide on expected materials for the final product. Ideally, should be scalable enough for multiple copies.

Need to clearly outline the following:
Client analysis
Audience analysis
Message goals (and anti-goals)
Competitive Analysis: Points of parity and opportunity
Application list: Prioritized list of what the system needs to cover
Context analysis: Where will the system appear
Use analysis: Who will use the system
Ideation, ideation, ideation (see Graphic Artifact)
