Research Methods

Variable Operational Table :

Queen City Quest is a pilot interactive EGD experience in the Cincinnati Parks System that educates and excites young park go-ers about park history through the lens of local plant life, starting with Mt. Airy Forest.

My variable for this table is plant life at Mt. Airy Forest. The methods I decided on based on this chart were archival research, think aloud, auto-ethnography, survey, interview, observation, card sort, and possible focus group or A/B testing later on.

I have been thinking of questions I can ask in interviews and surveys and this is what I have so far :

Interview with Park:
- What does the ideal visitor journey look like?
-What are the key points of Mt. Airy’s reforestation project?
-How have you seen visitors interact with existing signage?
-What are the different user groups you see in the space?
-How do visitors currently interact with nature in the park?
-What do you most want visitors to know about plant life in the park?
-What are some action steps people can take?

Survey / Interview with visitors :
-How often do you visit Mt. Airy and for what reason(s) do you typically visit?
-Do you ever read signage that you see in the space? Can you recall and specifically?
-What do you currently know about the history of the park?
-What do you currently know about the plant life in the park?
-If you were to see an interpretive panel would you actively seek out another panel if they were linked through a journey?
-When you visit the park, over what distance do you usually travel within the park?
-What Mt. Airy amenities do you use?
-Describe the journey you usually take in the park.
